Norman Lamb comments on care home standards

Commenting on reports of abuse in elderly care homes, Liberal Democrat Care and Support Minister Norman Lamb said:

"Poor care is completely unacceptable. Everyone should receive great care delivered by well-trained, compassionate staff - we are committed to making this the reality and to preventing abuse and neglect.

"The CQC will soon be inspecting care homes using new, tougher care standards, which we have brought in to allow the CQC to prosecute both providers and company directors for unacceptable standards of care. And we're making sure we recruit people with the right values and skills by introducing a "fit and proper person" test for directors and a care certificate for front-line staff."
