Opportunity for everyone - that's the liberal promise

Today, Nick Clegg gave a speech setting out his vision for a distinctly liberal future for the United Kingdom.

In his speech, Nick outlined how Liberal Democrats see the world differently to other political parties, by focussing on building a stronger economy and a fairer society, and creating opportunities for everyone.

Nick said: "We've talked a lot about building a stronger economy. We've talked a lot about creating a fairer society. But maybe we haven't talked enough about why those things matter.

"They matter because they are the only way we can enable everyone to get on in life - or as I am calling it today, quite simply, opportunity for everyone.

"And that comes from something which is unique to us Liberal Democrats; an innate optimism about people."

He highlighted key Liberal Democrat achievements in government including reducing the national deficit, cutting income tax, the triple lock pension promise and introducing same sex marriage.

Nick also explained how in keeping with the party's liberal belief in creating opportunities for future generations, Liberal Democrats will abide by a new debt rule which will significantly reduce national debt so that debt is reduced to a safe level, at a sensible rate.
