More than 1,400 happy couples have tied the knot since same-sex marriage came into effect in March.
According to figures released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 56% of the newlyweds were female couples and 44% were male.

On 29 March, the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013 was introduced in England and Wales. 95 couples married in the first three days that the Act came into force.
Liberal Democrats were the first party to support same-sex marriage and were delighted to make it law.
