New software launched to help businesses close the gender pay gap

UK companies are being offered new computer software to help close the gender pay gap.

The equal pay software will help businesses analyse their pay data, making it simple and straightforward to measure any gaps in pay.

The software will be made available to all UK companies and forms part of a new package of measures designed to help close the pay gap between men and women.

The new measures include publishing guidance to help employees compare their pay to their male counterparts and investing £2m to help women move from low paid, low skill work to high paid, high skill work.

Liberal Democrat Minister for Women and Equalities and Business Jo Swinson said:

"I'm delighted that we are introducing measures to encourage companies to look more closely at whether they pay their female employees correctly.

"We must continue to use all avenues possible to reduce the gender pay gap, and I look forward to seeing how these new initiatives are put into practice by businesses. Companies are to blame for the gender pay gap, not women."

Liberal Democrats are leading the campaign to close the gender pay gap. Under Liberal Democrat plans, companies employing more than 250 members of staff would be legally required to publish their pay gap.
