David Bellotti (1943 -2015)

Former Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Eastbourne, David Bellotti sadly passed away yesterday morning after battling an illness.

David was the surprise winner of a by-election in Eastbourne in 1990 and held the seat for two years. Notably, he was the first person to be elected as a Liberal Democrat MP after the party was formed by merger of the Liberal Party and the SDP.

He was an active campaigner and a committed liberal who championed the cause of the Liberal Democrats throughout his life. He was a councillor for many years in both East Sussex and Bath.
