Call for 1,000 homes at Brimscombe Port
Stroud Liberal Democrats are calling for the development plans for Brimscombe Port to be amended to provide homes for 1000 people.
The decision was supported by Local Liberal Democrat Adrian Walker-Smith, who lives near the Port. Adrian said:
'When I was a young man I lived on the Lillington Gardens Council Estate in Westminster. It built in the 70's without high rise blocks and although the development included pubs, shops, large areas of lawn and mature trees, it achieved a density of 218 people an acre. It became internationally famous as an example of good design. Even when allowance is made for facilities to support the canal, homes for a thousand people should be achievable and a population of this size will justify the improvements to roads and bus services that should support the development of the Port and surrounding area."
